Problem :
This project focused on designing a multi-device experience that supports a specific user need across different contexts. The goal was to analyse user behaviour before, during, and after an activity, and determine which device would best support each stage.
I selected the challenge of calorie tracking and weight loss, as many users struggle with consistency, motivation, and long-term behaviour change. Existing solutions often focus only on logging food, but do not adequately support habit formation, planning, or reflection across different moments in daily life.
Solution :
I designed a cross-platform ecosystem that supports users throughout their health journey. The concept focused on making healthy behaviour easier and more sustainable by distributing tasks across devices based on context and cognitive effort.
Mobile devices were prioritised for quick food logging and real-time tracking during the day, while larger screens such as tablets and desktops supported reflection, planning, and deeper insights. The system included automated diet planning tailored to personal goals and preferences, reducing decision fatigue and lowering barriers to consistency.
To support motivation and behaviour change, I introduced a personalised AI-driven coaching component that monitors progress, provides feedback, and reinforces positive habits. The experience combined goal-setting, progress tracking, and adaptive feedback to encourage long-term engagement and healthier decision-making.
Challenge :
The main challenge was designing a cohesive experience across multiple devices without creating friction or fragmentation. This required careful mapping of user journeys and identifying which tasks should happen on which device to optimise convenience and usability.
Another challenge was balancing automation and user control. While automated planning reduces cognitive load, users still need flexibility and trust in the system. This led to iterative design decisions that allowed personalisation while maintaining clarity and transparency.
Summary :
This project strengthened my skills in service design, behaviour-driven UX, and cross-device interaction. It improved my ability to map user journeys, reduce cognitive effort, and design systems that support long-term habit formation.
Most importantly, it deepened my understanding of how technology can influence behaviour across contexts, a perspective that continues to guide my work in interaction design and motivational products.
